Founded in 1993, the COMU Archaeology Department (formerly Archaeology and History of Art from 1993 to 1997) offers both an undergraduate (B.A.) , graduate (M.A.) and doctorate (Ph.D.) degree. Our programs focus on Anatolian Prehistory, the Ancient Near East (Neolithic, Bronze, and Iron Ages), Aegean Archaeology and the Greeks and Romans (Classical Archaeology).
The Department has conducted excavations at Troy, Assos, Eceabat-Maydos in Troad, including Batman-Sumaki Höyük, Diyarbakır-Çayönü in Northeastern Anatolia.
Students have taken part in excavations and filed surveys during the summer period conducted by our department staff or other universities. In addition, students have the opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters. In recent years, students have taken part in Erasmus+ exchange programs (visitin student) as Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany; Universite Paris X Nantarrre in France and University of the Aegean in Greece.
An undergraduate degree in COMU Department of Archaeology offers a good preparation for professional development in field archaeology.
